AMACO® Crystaltex Glazes. Lead Free. Cone 05-06. AMACO Crystaltex Glazes have surface color variations, producing unique results from every firing. They consist of a basic liquid color with one or more complementary crystals settled at the bottom. The crystals create spontaneous bursts of color which contrast and blend with the base glaze. For application by dipping or pouring, thorough stirring of the glaze is necessary. For a more controlled decorative effect, dip a brush into the glaze at the top of the jar and apply two or more coats. To accent, lift crystals from the bottom with the brush and place where desired. Crystals fan out on flat horizontal surfaces and run on vertical pieces. To spray the Crystaltex glazes, use the glaze without the crystals, place the crystals by hand where you want them, then spray another thin coat of glaze over that. Best results are obtained at Cone 05 (1911 F, 1044C). These glazes must be applied on a mature Cone 04 (1971F, 1077C) bisque. Lava, Brown Earth and Melon have a matte finish with glossy crystals when fired. The rest of the series is either glossy or a textured gloss/matte finish. All crystals fire to a gloss finish.
