I used this for a parent gift at my preschool. Very easy to use and sturdy. I was VERY pleased with the results. I added jewels and glitter to wet plaster ,then finished with a cute ribbon with their name/year in puffy paint...cute, cute, cute!

Mixing plaster of paris is always tricky. I have made these types of ornaments before using a more expensive mix and mold, which had a lovely Christmas image on the non-handprint side. That more expensive mix/mold and the OTC inexpensive mix/mold is just as tempermental. It's hard to know how smooth (or in this case how not so smooth) the mix should be on the first try. By the 2nd or 3rd mold, you should have it figured out.

I ordered these to make for our parents, grandparents and my brother for Christmas since this was our babies' 1st Christmas. I tried twice to mix the plaster before it completely dried out. It says to 'pour' it into the mold....there was no 'pouring' to it for me. Two kits later, I had a bunch of dried up plaster and no ornaments for my family. I was disappointed but the customer service was amazing!

This kit had potential, but the trays for making the plaster impression are useless - they aren't flat and they are too thin to be able to push a child's hand down enough. Then, the entire ornament is far too heavy to hang on a tree! And, the instructions say to push a pencil through the wet plaster to make the hole for a ribbon - you are better off using a straw and keeping it there to set (the pencil "hole" filled back in). I had better luck using the plaster and making my own handprints - not for use on a tree.

Bought this for my 2 & 3 year old class for VBS. Followed the instructions when adding the water. Only instruction not followed - couldn't wait the 4 to 5 min for plaster to set before putting child's hand in. I waited about a min - just have to watch it until it hardens a little bit - then hold their hand in it! Did not have any problems with the craft. Also, after taking child's hand out, we took the stick, wet it and smoothed out the mold. This worked great. Agree with other comment it is heavy - but suggest putting at the bottom of the tree - then it can hang low and not hit anything!

I made 10 of these with my 2 kids (had to have a pair for each set of grandparents!). The mixture dries very very quickly so you have to be ready to press their hands in fast. As soon as you pour the mixture in mold you have to make the hand print. The mixing directions are very clear in how to mix and how much water to use. I found them to be very accurate and precise and each of the 10 hand prints we made came out the same consistency. After the concrete dried the prints looked great!! It says it is appropriate for 0 - 3 years old. My oldest is 5 and her hand fit just fine in the space the mold provided. I am actually going to buy a few more of these to make some for the Godparents next.... My only reason for not giving this product a 5 out of 5 is that it is quite a heavy ornament and my tree's branches aren't all that sturdy so I am hanging mine in alternate areas of my house.

This product was difficult to use. We found that you have to use hot water and mix all the plaster at once in order for this to work properly and not have it set instantly. The other reviews are correct it does set way to quickly especially when you are trying to do a young child. My son is almost 2 and we thought this would be a nice gift to grandparents and great grandparents but ended up with plaster from one end of the house to the other and a huge mess. This may be something I would try again next year. Regardless all his granparents and great grandparents LOVED this project!!

first it is only one, at least mine was, i did not receive 12 or even remotely enough to do 12 it was definitely just 1. second it dried before i even got my daughters handprint in it, so we just carved stuff on the back of it. the ones in the store are the same though i've noticed, so from now on if i want something with a memory of their little handprints i'm just going to use the standard fingerprint ink kits.

The first one I tried set almost instantly. Cracked when pushed. I couldn't even get my fingerprint to show up. Threw away. The second one I tried I doubled the water. Again set too fast to use. Threw away. Third one added more water, watched the whole time for setting. It went from too gushy to use to too set again. I've given up for now. I thought it would be difficult, but not this bad.
